Our firm has been providing comprehensive Civil Engineering and Land Survey services since 1965. Our wide range of  capabilities are demonstrated by a selection of project examples presented below.
MAIN STREET DRAINAGE ENCLOSURE PROJECT- ESSEX JUNCTION, VT
Our firm provided complete land surveying, design engineering, bidding phase, and resident engineering services for the Main Street Drainage Enclosure Project. This project included the enclosure of an existing roadside ditch, the installation of concrete curbing, a new 4 foot striped bicycle lanes, and the installation of new drainage pipe and stormwater structures. The existing roadside ditch required constant maintenance from public works due to steep grades and a large drainage area contributing to the ditch. Also, the existing ditch was conveyed through numerous driveways via culverts which were routinely found in disrepair due to the high velocity and volume of the stormwater in this area. Along with the bicycle lane extension, and the stormwater improvements, our firm provided engineering design for three gravity retaining walls along Main Street to allow the installation of a future concrete sidewalk system.
WAREHOUSE AND OFFICE-5256 WILLISTON ROAD- WILLISTON, VT
Our firm prepared sketch plans, preliminary plans, and final construction plans for the 40,000 sf warehouse and office building on the corner of Williston Road and Commerce Street in the existing Alling Industrial Park. We also prepared presentation plans and attended Development Review Board Hearings during the local approval process. The project included the demolition of two existing residences, the development of a truck loading and parking area, 30 employee parking spaces, and a stormwater infiltration system. All stormwater from the site is modeled to be infiltrated into the subsurface soils via the underground stormwater chambers and dry swale systems. Our firm also prepared all local and state permit applications for the project including the Construction General Permit, Land Use ACT 250 Permit, State of Vermont Wastewater and Potable Water Supply Permit, Vermont Agency of Transportation Access Permit, State of Vermont Stormwater Operational Permit, and the Town of Williston Pre-Application, Discretionary Permit, Final Plan, and Administrative Permit applications.
HILLCREST DRAINAGE AND ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT- ESSEX JUNCTION, VT
Hillcrest Road in the Village of Essex Junction is approximately 800 feet long, has roadway grades approaching 10%, and drains to Route 15-Pearl Street. There was no existing stormwater infrastructure on the site which resulted in erosion issues and high velocity and volume of runoff which discharged onto Pearl Street. Many residences also have issues with groundwater in their basements all year long. This project included the design of a deep underdrain system to collect groundwater across N. Hillcrest Road, which was flooding residential basements down gradient of the roadway. The underdrain system was connected to a new stormwater collection system installed on Hillcrest Road as part of this project which included 9 new drainage structures and 850 linear feet of new storm pipe. The project also included 350 linear feet of new ductile iron waterline to eliminate a dead end line and create a looped water system between W. Hillcrest and Hillcrest Road. The project included grinding the existing roadways, re-grading, and installing a 4'' pavement overlay. Our firm provided complete land surveying, design engineering, and resident engineering services for the project. The project design included an extensive stormwater model shown to the left. The model was created and used to perform calculations and analysis of the entire drainage area between Summit Street, Hillcrest, N. Hillcrest, and W. Hillcrest Road. The existing stormwater system downstream of the site was also modeled to determine the impacts of the connection of the new stormwater system to the existing one.
MILL POND ROADWAY RECONSTRUCTION- COLCHESTER, VT
Provided land surveying and engineering design services for the complete roadway redevelopment and drainage improvements project from the Indian Brook Bridge to the intersection of VT RTE 2A on Mill Pond Road. The design included over 1,300 linear feet of full depth roadway reconstruction with stone ditches on each side of the road. The design included in depth construct-ability analysis due to high groundwater table, steep roadway grades,  embankments in close proximity on both sides of the roadway, and the connection of the roadway to a bridge under construction at the same time as the roadway work. The design was performed in cooperation with the State of Vermont Agency of Transportation Bridge Improvement Project STP 5600(12). Our design team worked hand in hand with the VTrans project leader as the two projects overlapped and were constructed at the same time. The design also included cut/fill calculations and adjustments were made to the finish grade of the roadway to accomplish a balanced grading scheme.
POST FARM-WASTE STORAGE FACILITY- ROYALTON, VT
Our firm is currently working with the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets providing agricultural water quality project planning, design, and construction services. Our firm has been selected to assist the program with the design of structural farm projects that will reduce the phosphorus and nitrogen loads delivered to water sources, including manure storage facilities, heavy use area management, waste transfer, clean water diversion, and milkhouse waste treatment.

One project with the Agency was to prepare plans for a waste storage facility and waste transfer upgrades at the Post Farm in Royalton, VT. Our firm prepared concept plans and is currently preparing final plans for a 28X36 sf waste storage structure and associated waste transfer improvements. The existing barnyard had a waste storage pond that was adjacent to an existing stream and wastes were conveyed to the stream during storm events. The goal of the project was to provide a covered concrete structure to store wastes and prevent the migration of the waste to the nearby stream. The 3 dimensional model shown to the left was used to visually portray the design to the farmer so he could see how the structure would relate and connect to the existing barn shown.
CITY OF SOUTH BURLINGTON-STP 5200(18) US ROUTE 2 THIRD EASTBOUND LANE/I-89 EXIT 14 IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT- SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT
Our firm provided Resident Engineering services for the improvements to US Route 2 in South Burlington between Exit 14 and the US 2 / Spear Street / East Avenue intersection. This portion of US Route 2 is a principal urban arterial that consisted of 6-7 travel lanes and provides a vital link between i-89 at Exit 14 and points eastward with downtown Burlington, The University of Vermont, The University of Vermont Medical Center, and Champlain College. The project design added a third eastbound travel lane by widening the roadway approximately 16' which allowed for improvements to vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and public transportation. Our firm conducted shop drawing review, prepared daily inspection documentation, directed traffic control measures, measured and documented construction pay quantities, served as the coordination and communication hub between the contractor, the City of South Burlington, VTrans, and the abutting property owners. Our firm is currently preparing record drawings for the project.
THE ZLOTOFF FOUNDATION-PRIVATE GARAGE- SOUTH HERO, VT
Our firm provided final design engineering and permitting services for the 11,000 sf garage and maintenance facility to house a classic car collection in South Hero. The project included approximately 1,000 linear feet of new driveway design, location of all new utilities, new stormwater system, parking design, new drilled well, and an on-site mound wastewater disposal system.
SCHOOL STREET RECONSTRUCTION- ESSEX JUNCTION, VT
Provided complete municipal project management services, bidding phase and resident engineering services, and design plans for the full reconstruction of 600 foot roadway, curbing, and sidewalks along School Street, Pearl Street, and Park Terrace. The project also included the replacement of the existing waterline, sewer main, and stormwater system. The design included changes to the finish grade profile of the road to correct stormwater management issues between the roadway and the abutting driveways. The project design included coordination between the new sidewalk and existing residential driveways along the roadway with significant pedestrian traffic associated with the Park Street School. Unique aspects of the project design involved the use of innovative roadway reconstruction techniques utilizing foam insulation for roadway stabilization over poorly drained frost susceptible soils. Our firm also prepared all contract documents, construction quantity estimation, construction cost estimates, and coordinated all correspondence between the contractor, Village Manager, Public Works Superintendent, and the residents.
GEORGIA CREEK ROAD- GEORGIA, VT
Our firm prepared plans and permit applications for the improvements to 1,100 linear feet of the Class IV Georgia Creek Road for access to a landlocked parcel. Improvements included full depth roadway reconstruction and a roadside stone ditch/ underdrain system. The design included in-depth constructability and long term maintenance analysis as the roadway contains slopes in excess of 15%. The finish grade of the new roadway was designed above the existing roadway grade to minimize ledge removal. The project design also included erosion prevention and sediment control plans  protecting this steep site, which has a large drainage area, from erosion and sediment migration.
ROUTE 2 & 2A ROADWAY AND INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS - WILLISTON, VT

DLHCE provided survey, engineering, and permitting services related to the design of approximately 1¼ miles of roadway and intersection improvements related to the Maple Tree Place development in Williston, Vermont. This project was one of the largest in-state roadway and intersection projects in one of the busiest communities in the State. Work included the design of 5 new signalized intersections and improvements to 4 existing signalized intersections. Our firm performed the analysis and design of all 9 signalized intersections with full signal coordination and associated roadway improvements. All traffic analysis and construction plans were done in accordance with VTrans standards and were approved by VTrans.

VILLAGE ENGINEER

Our firm was selected to be the Village Engineer for the Village of Essex Junction in 1996. We have been re-selected by the Trustees each year since then to provide this comprehensive service. Beyond survey, design, permitting assistance, and inspection services for municipal projects, for the past 17 years we have provided project review services for virtually all of the development within the Village to ensure that it is in conformance with the Public Works Standards, Land Development Code. Our firm has created, and updates street and utility plans, which provide complete inventory information for all of the streets, sanitary sewer system, water and hydrant system, and stormwater system for the entire Village. Our firm has led the effort to produce and coordinate the Capital Budget by providing a comprehensive Capital Improvements estimate database. We also provide special investigations such as sanitary sewer infiltration studies and stormwater flood modeling.

WILKINSON DRIVE CROSSWALK STUDY- ESSEX JUNCTION

Site investigation, data collection, and traffic/pedestrian engineering services related to the evaluation of a proposed new crosswalk on Wilkinson Drive at the existing recreation path crossing. Developed short term and long term improvements related to signing and striping, proposed relocation of the recreation path crossing location, and installation of a new marked crosswalk.

MAPLE TREE PLACE, WILLISTON VT
DLHCE provided complete site design, permitting, and resident engineering services for the 72 acre mixed-use commercial, retail, and residential center in Williston, VT. Project included 300,000 s.f. of retail space and 250,000 s.f. of commercial space. The center includes rental housing, offices, a cinema, restaurants, parks, recreation space, a multi-use path, and a supermarket. The site hosts a stormwater drainage system which utilizes a large landscaped pond which is surrounded by a portion of the approximately 2 mile multi-use path. This project included the design of intersection and signal improvements to 9 intersections along with coordination. As part of this development our firm designed significant upgrades to the existing municipal water system.


MOUNTAIN VIEW BUSINESS PARK, PHASE I & II,  TILLEY DRIVE, SOUTH BURLINGTON VT
Design of roadway and site improvements related to a commercial two lot subdivision in South Burlington. Responsible for the preparation of complete construction plans, details, permit assistance, and construction phase assistance. Project included the design of new sewer lines, a new sewer pump station and forcemain, approximately 850 l.f. of new waterline to serve the park, as well as grading and stormwater drainage design. Project also included design of a bike path. Performed traffic engineering services including trip generation estimates, trip distribution and assignment, capacity analysis computations, turning lane warrant analyses, signal warrant analyses, and general safety analysis for the proposed drive. All analysis and computations were reviewed and approved by the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
LAKE CHAMPLAIN TRANSPORTATION, GRAND ISLE FERRY TERMINAL, GRAND ISLE VT

Provided conceptual design, preliminary design, final contract plans, permitting assistance, and resident engineering services for the complete reconstruction of the Grand Isle Ferry Terminal. Design and permitting assistance included a Stormwater Discharge Permit, intersection and access reconfiguration (VTrans Highway Permit), local approval, Army Corps of Engineers Permit, Wastewater System and Potable Water Supply Permit, and a State Shoreline Encroachment Permit. Construction coordination with terminal operations was critical to maintain the facility operations 24 hours per day. Project included new entry/exit lanes, ticket booths, new parking areas, loading zones, site lighting, stormwater collection and treatment, a dedicated pedestrian access route to the dock, and a retaining wall structure that was built to protect a historic ship wreck.

14TH STAR BREWING COMPANY, LLC - SAINT ALBANS VT
Prepared calculations for the existing sewer and water flows for the entire Saint Albans Shopping Center owned by Pomerleau Real Estate. Calculated proposed domestic sewer, industrial wastewater, and water flows for a proposed 3,000 barrel/year brewery based on Peak Day Flow Use. Prepared an identification of use plan of the entire Pomerleau Complex-Saint Albans Shopping Center. Prepared State of Vermont Wastewater and Potable Water Supply Permit Application. Prepared wastewater and water flow calculations, based on numerous flow schemes, and coordinated with the Wastewater Management Division of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources to determine if a pretreatment permit was required due to the high strength parameters of brewery wastewater.
VILLAGE OF ESSEX JUNCTION, FLOODING ASSISTANCE, ESSEX JUNCTION VT

Emergency engineering assistance and field investigations related to localized flooding of roadways and adjacent properties on multiple occasions during the summer of 2013 as a result of intense rainfall events in the Village of Essex Junction. Ongoing field observations and monitoring during large, intense storm events of municipal drainage systems to identify flooding and hazardous conditions to protect public health and safety, working with the Public Works Department.  Post-storm event inspections of municipal infrastructure to assess potential damage resulting from storm events.

 

Performed drainage studies and culvert analysis computations to confirm the sizing of the existing municipal drainage system components in accordance with current regulations and design storm events and its adequacy in light of the recent intense storm events experienced during the summer of 2013.  Provided recommendations for maintenance, repairs, and improvements to the municipal drainage system components as necessary.

SMITH ESTATES STORMWATER IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, TOWN OF COLCHESTER, COLCHESTER VT

Complete land survey  and engineering design for stormwater improvements for the South Bay Circle Smith Estates Subdivision.  Prepared conceptual, preliminary, and final contract plans. The existing in-ground stormwater dry-well system had failed and stormwater runoff was crossing East Lakeshore Drive and discharging down a forty foot embankment into Lake Champlain. Erosion from this discharge was threatening the foundation of a home along the embankment. The project included new curbside collection system, overflow collection system, and a large stormwater outfall structure adjacent to East Lakeshore Drive and Smith Creek. Prepared a Traffic Control Plan. Performed complete roadway and stormwater infrastructure analysis and documentation. Performed hydraulic modeling, calculations, and analysis. Examined local precipitation data to identify and characterize extreme rain events over the past ten years. Prepared estimate of construction quantities and construction cost estimate. Provided bidding phase assistance including answering contractor’s questions related to the contract plans and brokering the pre-bid and pre-construction meetings. Provided part time design engineering assistance during construction phase.

NEWTON'S FOREST DEVELOPMENT, SAINT ALBANS VT

Survey and engineering design services related to an affordable housing Planned Residential Development consisting of 48 residential townhouse and condominium units located along Lower Newton Road in the Town of St. Albans, just outside of the City of St. Albans.  Responsible for all site improvements, including grading and drainage design consisting of grass lined swales and a stormwater detention basin for treatment and control of stormwater runoff  prior to discharge to a large wetland complex contiguous to an unnamed tributary of Stevens Brook.  Responsible for the preparation of all design computations and permit application materials leading to the issuance of all Local and State permits.

MILTON HIGH SCHOOL RECREATION FIELD REHABILITATION, MILTON VT

Complete surveying and engineering design services for the Milton High School Recreation Field Rehabilitation. This project included complete regrading of the existing football field utilizing a turfgrass sod cross section and new subsurface stormwater storage facilities. Our firm  provided complete engineering design plans along with construction cost estimates and bidding documents.
WOODS END ROADWAY RECONSTRUCTION, ESSEX JUNCTION VT

Complete survey, engineering design, bidding, and resident engineering services related to the full reconstruction of the roadway, curbing, and sidewalks along Woods End Drive in the Village of Essex Junction from Rivendell to Acorn Circle. Project design included consideration for the significant groundwater in a portion of the project site along with high clay content subsurface soils. The project design involved the use of innovative roadway reconstruction techniques utilizing foam insulation for roadway stabilization over the poorly drained frost susceptible soils.

MOUNT MANSFIELD COMPANY, INC. -MAINTENANCE FACILITIES, STOWE VT

Provided complete land surveying and design services for a new maintenance and warehouse complex for the Stowe Mountain Resort. The project included the design of a facilities office,  a woodshop, and warehouse. The development, located on a 620 acre site, also included an overflow parking lot, water and sewer connections, and stormwater infrastructure.

COLCHESTER CAMPUS CONNECTOR PROJECT TCSP TCSE (007), COLCHESTER VT 
Construction inspection and testing services for the Colchester  Campus Connector Project developed through the VTrans Local Transportation Facilities program. Served as the Resident Engineer representing the Town of Colchester. We were responsible for construction inspection and supervising testing services to ensure the project was completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. Project involved the realignment of the Johnson Avenue intersection with Route 15, elimination of the Johnson Avenue "slip-lane" onto Route 15, the reconstruction and extension of Johnson Avenue to link with a reconfigured entrance to Camp Johnson, and further continuation to connect with Winchester Avenue and Fort Ethan Allen. This project provided an important new link between the north and south campus of Saint Michael's College.
RUBY RUN TRAIL DESIGN, GORE MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT, GORE NEW YORK

Our firm provided complete surveying, engineering design, and quantity estimation for the development of the Ruby Run ski trail at the Gore Mountain Ski Resort. Gore Mountain wanted to provide beginner access off the top of the mountain through an existing cliff band. Due to Adirondack Park regulations, our design could not include any new material to be delivered to the site, and no existing material could leave the site. Using 3-D modeling software, our team provided conceptual and final design  of the trail with balancing cut and fill for all blasted material. We also provided grade control for the contract during construction. This project was successfully in that it not only provided beginners with a route off the top of the mountain, but Gore personnel are able to use this trail to drive vehicles to the top of the mountain.

SUMMIT STREET ROADWAY RECONSTRUCTION AND WATERLINE REPLACEMENT, ESSEX JCT.  VT
Complete survey, engineering design, bidding, and resident engineering services related to the full reconstruction of the roadway, curbing, and sidewalks along Summit Street in the Village of Essex Junction from Pearl Street to Prospect Street. The project also included the replacement of the existing waterline. Project design included coordination between the new sidewalk and existing residential driveways along the roadway with significant pedestrian traffic associated with the Summit Street Elementary School. Unique aspects of the project design involved the use of innovative roadway reconstruction techniques utilizing foam insulation for roadway stabilization over poorly drained frost susceptible soils.


MOUNT MANSFIELD DOWN MOUNTAIN SEWER SYSTEM, STOWE VT

Complete engineering design, permitting, and resident engineering services for an innovative 24,000 feet sewer pipeline system connecting two existing restaurants on the top of Mount Mansfield to the municipal sewer system at the base. These systems were designed, permitted, and constructed in two months.

PEARL STREET COMPLETE STREETS - ESSEX JCT. VT

Planning and design efforts as part of a Complete Streets initiative in an effort to better accommodate all users along the existing Pearl Street (VT Route 15) corridor in Essex Junction between the existing signalized intersection at West Street Extension and the Champlain Valley Exposition. This "road diet" project resulted in the reduction in the number of vehicle travel lanes from four (two in each direction) to three (one lane in each direction with a center two-way left turn) and adding designated bike lanes in each direction within the existing roadway width. The Complete Streets modifications were accompanied by a reduction in the posted speed limit to slow traffic and create a more pedestrian and bicycle friendly environment. Also included were modifications to the existing eastbound approach to the signalized intersection at West Street Extension to channelize through and right turning vehicles in advance of the revised roadway configuration.

WILLEY FAMILY SUBDIVISION, SOUTH HERO VT

Provided complete boundary survey, design, and state and local permitting services for this 7 lot subdivision of the Willey Farm in South Hero, VT. We also assisted the owner in their negotiations with a land trust that ultimately purchased the entire parcel.

VERMONT'S CAMP TA-KUM-TA, SOUTH HERO VT

DLHCE provided complete surveying, permitting, and engineering design for the construction of Vermont's Camp Ta-Kum-Ta's permanent home. The camp is a youth camp for cancer patients, survivors, and their families. It is located on a 103 acre residential/agricultural parcel in South Hero. The project included new buildings, including 9 cabins for campers and staff, an activities building, an arts and crafts building, a chapel, a security and aquatics building,  pond/pool storage, restroom building, and 213 seat theatre. This project included hydrologic and soil analysis along with complete engineering design of two large scale septic systems with a total capacity of almost 10,000 gallons per day. Water system improvements included a storage system to provide sprinkler and fireflow capacity.

TEXAS ROADHOUSE, WILLISTON VT

Provided complete surveying, engineering design, local and state permitting, and resident engineering assistance for the Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Williston, VT. Provided technical assistance during the development review board process and developed 3 dimensional models of the proposed infrastructure to aid in the approval process.

VEJ FIVE CORNERS STP 5300(9), ESSEX JCT. VT
Provided Municipal Project Management and Resident Engineering services for this LTF funded project that included improvements to every approach leg of one of the busiest intersections in Vermont. These improvements included waterline replacement, new curbing, new sidewalk, new lighting, new signals, new signage, and repaving of the intersection. Prepared photorealistic images of the appearance of the Five Corners intersection with mast arm type traffic signals and revised streetscape, which became the basis for the design by others of a comprehensive streetscape and lighting improvement project.


MILTON HIGH SCHOOL ROOF DRAIN OUTFALL AND STORMWATER STORAGE GALLERY, MILTON VT

DLHCE provided complete surveying and engineering design services for the Milton High School roof drain outfall and stormwater storage gallery. There was severe erosion to a slope and downstream drainage channel at the discharge end of the existing roof drain outfall. A large sink hole at the top of bank had formed causing sediment transport. Our team designed a solution to repair erosion, stabilize, and restore the slope and downstream drainage channel. Project design also included subsurface stormwater storage gallery for  off-line storage of stormwater runoff from the roof for use in irrigating the recreation fields.
 
This project was awarded the 2012 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence.
PEARL STREET IMPROVEMENTS STP 5300(11), ESSEX JCT. VT
DLHCE served as the Municipal Project Manager, performed a scoping study, and prepared conceptual plans, preliminary plans, cross section concepts, and 3D models of proposed streetscape improvements for a portion of Pearl Street that includes the CVE frontage. These models became the basis for the design of comprehensive streetscape improvements along this portion of Route 15. We also provided Resident Engineering services for this project which included new curbing, sidewalks, lighting, fencing, and new entrance building for the CVE pedestrian gate, new signage, reconstruction of the CVE main vehicle entrance, landscaping, and pavement overlay and striping.


MAIN STREET MULTI-USE PATH, ESSEX JCT. VT
DLHCE performed a scoping study, conceptual plans, final plans, and provided resident engineering for a bicycle/pedestrian path along Main Street in Essex Junction. The scoping study included roadway inventory and condition documentation, and assessment of related infrastructure including curbing, sidewalks, crosswalks, pavement, roadway and driveway geometry, subsurface conditions, drainage, existing utilities, and streetscape components. The project provided a connection between two existing multi-use paths which traverse between Essex Center and the Village of Essex Junction.


MALLETTS BAY AVENUE ROADWAY REPAIR - COLCHESTER, VT

DLHCE provided complete survey, engineering, design and resident engineering services for the replacement of a large galvanized metal culvert which conveyed groundwater and stormwater across Malletts Bay Avenue. The project also included the restoration of drainage channels and installation of an energy mitigation structure. The engineering services included roadway inventory and culvert condition documentation, and assessment of related infrastructure including pavement, roadway geometry, subsurface conditions, drainage, existing utilities, and culvert components. In-depth hydraulic and hydrologic analysis was performed to ensure the design provided long term durability and function.

PRESIDENT'S HOUSE BRIDGE REPAIR - STOWE, VT

DLHCE performed complete survey services,  engineering design, and inspection for the replacement of an existing wooden bridge with modified concrete box culvert sections so that the existing abutments may be retained. The existing structure provides the conveyance of an un-named tributary to the Ranch Brook under the driveway of the Stowe Mountain Resort President’s house. The engineering services included roadway inventory and bridge condition documentation, and assessment of related infrastructure including the concrete wing walls, bridge geometry, stream conditions, drainage, and existing utilities.

JASPER MINE ROAD CULVERT REPAIR - COLCHESTER, VT

DLHCE provided engineering design and construction inspection services for the emergency repair of a concrete box culvert which allowed a tributary to the Lamoille River to travel below the Jasper Mine Roadway. The engineering services included roadway inventory and culvert condition documentation, and assessment of related infrastructure including pavement, roadway geometry, subsurface conditions, drainage, existing utilities, and culvert components. Our firm worked in coordination with G.W. Tatro Construction, Inc. to perform a design/build repair of the existing culvert by lining the culvert with HDPE pipe and filling the remaining void space with concrete.

LINCOLN STREET SIDEWALK AND LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS - ESSEX JCT.  VT

Our firm served as the main contact representing the Village of Essex Junction responsible for construction inspection and testing services to ensure the project was completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. The project included cement concrete sidewalks, stamped concrete medians, curb ramps with detectable warnings, detectable warning surfaces, lighting and associated landscaping and drainage improvements to the project area

RATHE SALVAGE, INC - COMPLIANCE MONITORING - COLCHESTER, VT

DLHCE is the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Coordinator for the Rathe Salvage Yard Facility in Colchester Vermont. Our firm developed the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and we perform quarterly comprehensive site evaluations and document the findings in a report containing observations relating to the discharge of pollutants from the facility, BMPs needing maintenance, locations where additional BMPs are needed, and updates to the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.

RIVER ROAD TRAIN BRIDGE/CULVERT PROJECT - ESSEX, VT

DLHCE provided complete design engineering services for the Corrugated Metal Plate Tunnel and Bridge Project which provides train conveyance below a former IBM Facilities Access Road in Essex Junction. This project required close coordination with the railroad company and required a design that could be constructed without limiting rail use.

MEADOW DRIVE TO MACRAE ROAD DRAINAGE REPAIR PROJECT - COLCHESTER, VT

DLHCE provided complete survey,  design, permit assistance, and resident engineering for the channelized stream repair between Meadow Drive and Macrae Road in Colchester VT. Permitting assistance included a Construction General Permit, Vermont Wetlands Permit, Stream Alteration Permit, Army Corps of Engineers Permit, and Water Quality Certification. The project also included the replacement of the existing culvert which crosses Macrae Road along with an energy mitigation outfall structure. Design included channelized ditch restoration, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and significant amount of communication and cooperation with nearly every regulatory agency in the Vermont Department of Conservation as well as the adjacent landowners.

FAIRVIEW FARMS STORMWATER IMPROVEMENTS - ESSEX JCT. VT

DLHCE provided complete, surveying, engineering design, permitting, and resident engineering services for stormwater improvements to the Fairview Farms Subdivision in Essex Junction. The engineering services included the inspection, documentation, and hydrologic analysis of the existing stormwater system within the subdivision, and design of a retention pond, repair of a 25’ embankment, and stormwater discharge structure.

SAINT MICHAEL'S COLLEGE-CAMPUS LOOP ROAD- COLCHESTER, VT

Provided complete survey, engineering design, bidding, permitting, and resident engineering services related to the full construction of the roadway, curbing, and lighting of the Campus Loop Road at Saint Michael’s College. The new 24’ wide, 700’ long roadway serves to connect the existing roadways within the campus to allow travel throughout the campus from more than one entry point.

VEJ CRESCENT CONNECTOR PROJECT STP 5300(13), ESSEX JCT. VT

DLHCE performed conceptual planning, 3D and drive-through models, and served as the Local Project Manager for a Circumferential Highway alternative project which will provide a bypass to Five Corners in Essex Junction. The project consists of a new segment of roadway that would extend along the east side of the Burlington Spur rail line between VT 2A and VT 117, and then continue between Maple Street and VT 15 along the existing alignment of Railroad Street. The Crescent Connector will provide important benefits to traffic circulation in the area including the reduction of traffic volumes at the Five Corners Intersection and the elimination of traffic interruption due to train crossings.

JERICHO SIDEWALK PROJECT STP SDWK(2) - JERICHO, VT

DLHE provided resident engineering, construction inspection, and supervision of testing services for the Jericho Sidewalk Project developed through the VTrans Local Transportation Facilities program. Our firm served as the main contact representing the Town of Jericho responsible for construction inspection and testing services to ensure the project was completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. The project included bituminous concrete and cement concrete sidewalks, curb ramps with detectable warnings, detectable warning surfaces, and associated landscaping and drainage improvements to the project area.

EAST LAKESHORE DRIVE EMBANKMENT REPAIRS, COLCHESTER VT

Provided preliminary design, final design plans, bidding services, and resident engineering services for  embankment repair on East Lakeshore Drive in Colchester, Vermont. Damages from Hurricane Irene caused shoreline erosion and slope failure on a 300 l.f. long, 25 foot high embankment which underlies East Lakeshore Drive between Lake Champlain. Coordination with neighbors, supervision of erosion prevention and sediment control practices, diligent traffic control, and knowledge of specialized construction within and adjacent to Lake Champlain led to the successful completion of this project on time and within budget.

ROCK QUARRY RECLAMATION PROJECT - APPLE ISLAND RESORT - SOUTH HERO, VT
DLHCE provided complete land surveying, permitting, design services, and grade control for the reclamation of the rock quarry at the Apple Island Resort in South Hero. Project involved terra forming the existing quarry to provide proper closure in accordance with state and local permits.
MAIN STREET REDEVELOPMENT - VILLAGE OF ESSEX JUNCTION

DLHCE performed a scoping study, provided municipal project management services, conceptual plans, final plans, and resident engineering for this roadway and sidewalk improvement project in the Village of Essex Junction. The project involved the installation of new sidewalk, curbs, and historic style lighting fixtures along Main Street (Route 15) between Railroad Avenue and the Five Corners Intersection. Continuous coordination with the area businesses was maintained and traffic control measures were implemented throughout the project.

FIVE CORNERS NORTH DRAINAGE PROJECT- ESSEX JUNCTION

Our firm provided complete surveying, engineering design, permitting, and resident engineering services for the Five Corners North Drainage Project in Essex Junction. The design used bypass  structures to divert existing underdrain and solid stormwater pipe flow  discharge into an underground storage gallery consisting of over 1000 l.f. of 42’’ HDPE pipe. The goal of the project was to buffer and reduce urban stormwater impacts to an adjacent stream.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ETHAN ALLEN FIRING RANGE- JERICHO, VT

The Ethan Allen Firing Range is an 11,00 acre government facility which features a complete weapon testing area for development, qualification, and testing of armament systems. It is also the home of the Vermont Mountain Warfare School. Our firm provided design engineering services for improvements to drainage, line of site, fire breaks, erosion protection and sediment control, and access facilities to the Range Sites 4-3 and 6-5.
